This policy explains how BluePort Container collects, uses, shares and protects personal data when you use blueportcontainer.com, buy a container from us, or contact us. We process personal data in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

BluePort Container is a trading name of Blue Container Storage Limited, registered in England & Wales, Company No. 09872244. Blue Container Storage Limited is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy.

We are not required to appoint a statutory Data Protection Officer. Data protection enquiries are handled by our management team at the address above.

2. The personal data we collect

Data you give us

Identity and contact data — name, company name, email address, telephone number, billing address and delivery address.
Enquiry and quotation data — container type, size, condition, quantity, delivery postcode, timescale, site access notes and any free-text message you send us.
Order and account data — order history, correspondence, delivery instructions and any account you create on the website.
Financial data — we do not store full card numbers. Card payments are processed by our payment providers; we receive confirmation of payment and limited identifying information such as the last four digits and card type. Bank transfer payments involve your account name and reference.
Marketing preferences — whether you have consented to receive marketing, and your unsubscribe choices.

Data we collect automatically

Technical data — IP address, browser type and version, device type, operating system, time zone and language settings.
Usage data — pages visited, time on page, referring URLs, and how you navigate the site.
Cookie data — as described in our Cookie Policy.

Data from third parties

Credit reference agencies, where you apply for a business credit account.
Payment providers, confirming that a transaction has succeeded or failed.
Hauliers and depots, confirming delivery events.
Publicly available business sources, such as Companies House.

We do not deliberately collect special category data (such as health, religious or biometric data) or criminal offence data. Please do not send it to us in free-text fields.

Where we rely on legitimate interests, we have carried out a balancing assessment and are satisfied that our interests are not overridden by your rights and freedoms. You may ask us for details of that assessment.

4. Who we share your data with

Hauliers and depots — your name, delivery address, telephone number and access notes, so they can deliver or collect your container.
Payment providers — to take and reconcile payments securely.
IT and hosting providers — our website host, email provider and backup services, acting as processors under written contracts.
Professional advisers — accountants, auditors, insurers and solicitors, where necessary.
Credit reference and debt recovery agencies — where a credit account is applied for or a debt is unpaid.
Regulators and public authorities — including HMRC, where we are required by law to disclose.
A purchaser — if the business or its assets are sold or reorganised.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes.

5. International transfers

We aim to keep personal data within the UK and the European Economic Area. Where a provider processes data outside the UK, we ensure an appropriate safeguard is in place — UK adequacy regulations, the International Data Transfer Agreement, or the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, together with any supplementary measures required. You may request a copy of the relevant safeguard by emailing us.

6. How long we keep your data

Enquiries and quotations that do not lead to an order: up to 24 months from last contact.
Customer order records, invoices and accounting data: a minimum of 6 years from the end of the relevant financial year, to satisfy HMRC and Companies Act 2006 requirements.
Contract and warranty records where a claim is possible: up to 6 years from the end of the contract, reflecting the limitation period under the Limitation Act 1980.
Website account data: until you ask us to close the account, then deleted or anonymised subject to the retention periods above.
Marketing data: until you withdraw consent or unsubscribe, plus a suppression record so that we do not contact you again.
Website analytics and log data: normally up to 26 months.

7. Your rights

Under the UK GDPR you have the right to:

Be informed about how your data is used — this policy.
Access your personal data and receive a copy of it.
Rectification of inaccurate or incomplete data.
Erasure of your data where there is no continuing lawful reason for us to hold it.
Restrict processing in certain circumstances, for example while accuracy is being checked.
Data portability — to receive data you gave us in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format, where processing is based on consent or contract and is automated.
Object to processing based on legitimate interests, and an absolute right to object to direct marketing at any time.
Withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent. This does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal.
Not be subject to solely automated decision-making producing legal or similarly significant effects. We do not carry out such decision-making.

To exercise any right, email info@blueportcontainer.com. We will respond within one calendar month, extendable by two further months for complex requests, and we will tell you if an extension applies. There is no charge unless a request is manifestly unfounded or excessive.

8. Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal data, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the UK supervisory authority:

9. Security

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data, including encryption in transit (HTTPS), access controls, restricted administrative accounts, and regular backups. Our staff and processors are subject to confidentiality obligations. No transmission over the internet is entirely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Where a personal data breach is likely to result in a risk to your rights and freedoms, we will report it to the ICO within 72 hours and, where the risk is high, notify you directly.

11. Marketing

We will only send you marketing emails where you have consented, or where you have bought from us and we are contacting you about similar goods and services under the soft opt-in in the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003. Every marketing email contains an unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time by emailing us.

12. Children

Our website and services are aimed at businesses and adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe we hold such data, contact us and we will delete it.

Our site may link to third-party websites. We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices. Please read their own privacy notices.

14. Changes to this policy

We review this policy at least annually and will update it when our processing changes. The current version, and its date, is always the version published on this page. Material changes affecting how we use your data will be notified to you where practicable.
