Delivery and Shipping Policy
This policy sets out the contractual terms on which BluePort Container delivers containers within the United Kingdom. It forms part of our Terms and Conditions. Practical guidance on access, offloading and site preparation is on our Delivery Information page. Nothing in this policy affects your statutory rights; where anything here conflicts with them, your statutory rights prevail.
1. Delivery area
We deliver free of charge throughout the United Kingdom — England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland — including the Scottish Highlands, the Scottish islands and the Isle of Wight. The Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey are delivered free of charge on the same basis. Remote and island destinations depend on ferry sailings and take longer, but they carry no additional charge.
We do not deliver to the Republic of Ireland or to any destination outside the territories listed above. Regional detail is on our Container Delivery Areas page.
2. Cost of delivery
- Delivery within the United Kingdom is free. There is no delivery charge, no postcode surcharge and no minimum order value.
- The price shown for the container is the total payable and includes delivery. No VAT is added at checkout.
- The distance from the holding depot, the vehicle required and any access constraints affect how we schedule your delivery, but they do not affect what you pay.
- Where a site needs specialist offloading or access arrangements — a crane lorry (HIAB), an escort vehicle, traffic management or a permit — we will agree the approach with you in writing before delivery.
3. Delivery estimate
Our estimate for delivery of a stock container is 7 to 10 days from cleared payment. This is an estimate given in good faith. It is not a guarantee, and time is not of the essence unless we have confirmed a fixed date in writing.
Some orders take longer, and we will tell you when we expect them to:
- Island and remote destinations, where the date depends on ferry sailings and on how often a route runs.
- Specialist units such as side-openers, open-tops, flat racks and refrigerated containers.
- Modified and made-to-order containers, where the lead time is confirmed on your quotation before you commit.
We confirm the expected delivery date for your order in writing, and we tell you promptly if it moves. For Consumers, where no period is agreed, we will deliver without undue delay and in any event within 30 days of the contract, in accordance with the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013.
4. Delivery windows
Deliveries are made Monday to Friday during normal haulage hours. We will confirm a date and, where the haulier permits, an AM or PM window. Timed slots are generally not available. The driver will normally telephone approximately 30 to 60 minutes before arrival, so a mobile number that will be answered on the day is essential.
5. Your obligations
- You must provide accurate, complete access information before dispatch, including approach width, straight run available, overhead clearances, ground conditions, turning space and any weight, width or timing restrictions.
- You must ensure the delivery point is lawful, safe and suitable, and that any necessary permissions, permits or landlord consents are in place.
- You must prepare a firm, level base capable of supporting the container on its four corner castings.
- A responsible person aged 18 or over must be present to direct placement and sign for the Goods.
- You must keep the delivery area clear of vehicles, people, animals and obstructions throughout.
6. Aborted and failed deliveries
If our vehicle attends and delivery cannot be completed for reasons within your control — including no one present, blocked or inadequate access, unsuitable ground, insufficient turning space, missing permissions or an unprepared site — the delivery is treated as aborted. Delivery itself is free of charge, but a wasted journey is not: an abortive charge equal to our reasonable costs becomes payable, and a further charge applies for any re-delivery. Where a driver is kept waiting beyond the free waiting period (normally one hour on customer-offload deliveries), waiting time is chargeable at the haulier’s rate. We will tell you the amount before we charge it.
If delivery cannot be completed for reasons within our control, we will rebook at no extra charge or refund you under our Refund Policy.
7. Property damage during delivery
Delivery vehicles are heavy and containers are large. Where you direct a vehicle onto a driveway, verge, yard or private road, you do so on the basis that the surface and any services beneath it are adequate. We are not liable for damage to driveways, paving, kerbs, verges, gates, drains, manholes, soakaways, septic tanks, cabling or landscaping arising from access you have represented as suitable. This does not exclude our liability for damage caused by our own negligence or that of our haulier. Drivers may decline to enter any area they judge unsafe or unsuitable, and that judgment is final.
8. Risk, inspection and signing
- Risk passes to you on delivery, or on collection if you collect from the depot.
- You must inspect the container before signing and record any damage, shortage or discrepancy on the delivery note.
- Please notify us of visible damage or shortage in writing, with photographs, within 48 hours of delivery. Prompt notice makes a claim far easier to resolve; for Consumers it is a request, not a condition of your statutory rights.
- Business customers must notify any misdescription or defect within 7 days of delivery.
- Consumers’ rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, including the 30-day short-term right to reject faulty goods, are unaffected by this clause. That right is separate from the 14-day change-of-mind cancellation right in our Returns Policy.
9. Placement
The final position of the container is limited by what the delivery vehicle can safely achieve. A tilt-bed delivery places the container in line with the vehicle’s approach; a HIAB can place it within the crane’s safe working reach. We cannot guarantee millimetre-accurate placement, and repositioning after the vehicle has left requires a further visit, which is charged, or your own plant.
10. Collections from depot
Stock is held at third-party depots around the country. Our Long Bennington address is a registered and administrative office, not a container depot, so please do not travel there for a container or a viewing.
Collection from the holding depot is available by prior appointment, and we will give you the address and opening hours when you order. You must arrive with a suitable vehicle and, where required, your own lifting arrangements and load-securing equipment. Depots may refuse to load onto unsuitable transport. You are responsible for the security of the load once it leaves the depot.
11. Events beyond our control
We are not liable for delay caused by severe weather, flooding, road closures, ferry cancellations, port congestion, industrial action, vehicle breakdown, driver shortage, epidemic, fire or acts of government. Where a delay is substantial we will contact you and, where appropriate, offer a revised date or a refund for undelivered Goods.
12. Multiple containers and instalments
Orders for more than one container may be delivered in instalments. Each instalment is treated as a separate delivery for the purposes of inspection and notification, but a defect in one instalment does not entitle you to reject the whole order unless the contract is indivisible.
