Warranty Policy
This policy sets out the warranty cover BluePort Container provides on containers we supply, and how it works alongside your statutory rights. It forms part of our Terms and Conditions and should be read with our Condition Guide.
1. Your statutory rights come first
If you are a consumer, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 requires that goods are of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described. Nothing in this warranty reduces those rights. This warranty is given in addition to them, and you may rely on whichever gives you the better outcome. If anything in this policy conflicts with your statutory rights, your statutory rights prevail.
Satisfactory quality for a second-hand industrial container is assessed against its age, its price and the condition grade it was sold as. A used container will show surface rust, dents, scrapes, patch repairs and mismatched paint; these are characteristics of the grade, not faults.
2. What we warrant
New / One-Trip containers
12 months from delivery against structural defects and water ingress arising from manufacturing or material defects, covering:
- the roof, side and end panels, and the underframe;
- door operation, hinges, locking bars and gaskets;
- the floor structure and its fixings;
- the integrity of the paint system, excluding fair weathering and any damage.
Cargo-Worthy containers
3 months from delivery that the container is wind and water tight, structurally sound and consistent with the Cargo-Worthy grade as described in our Condition Guide, including that the doors operate and seal.
Wind and Water Tight containers
3 months from delivery that the container is dry inside under normal weather conditions and that the doors open, close and lock. Cosmetic condition is excluded.
Flat racks and platforms
3 months from delivery that the deck, main rails, cross members, end frames and corner castings are structurally sound, free from cracks, significant distortion and failed welds, and that any folding end frames raise, lower and lock as designed. A flat rack has no side walls, roof or door seals, so weathertightness and internal dryness do not apply to it and are not warranted. Cosmetic condition, surface rust and deck timber wear consistent with a used unit are excluded.
As-Is containers
No warranty. As-Is units are sold with their known faults declared, at a price that reflects them. Consumers retain their statutory rights, but a fault specifically drawn to your attention before purchase is not a breach of those rights.
Modifications and fabrication work
12 months on workmanship for modifications we supply — personnel doors, windows, vents, electrics, insulation, shelving and repaints — subject to correct use and, where relevant, periodic inspection and testing of electrical installations by a competent person.
Accessories and ancillary items
No BluePort Container warranty term applies. Accessories and ancillary items — locks, lock boxes, ramps, racking, site equipment and similar goods — are not covered by the warranty periods set out above. Your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 apply to them in full, as does any manufacturer’s guarantee supplied with the item. If an accessory arrives faulty or fails within a reasonable time, contact us and we will deal with it under those rights.
3. What is not covered
- Condensation. “Container rain” is a function of temperature, humidity, ventilation and what you store. It is not a defect. See the condensation guidance in our Buyer’s Guide.
- Inadequate base. Distortion, twisting, door misalignment and floor damage caused by siting the container on soft, uneven or inadequately prepared ground.
- Fair wear and tear, weathering of paint, and progressive surface rust on used units.
- Damage caused by you or a third party, including impact, overloading, forced entry, vandalism, graffiti, misuse or accident.
- Unauthorised modification — cutting, welding, drilling or structural alteration by anyone other than us or an installer we approve voids the structural warranty on the affected area.
- Corrosion from stored contents, including salt, fertiliser, agrochemicals, cleaning products and fuels.
- Pest, vermin and mould damage, and damage from stored goods that were already damp.
- Consequential loss — damage to goods stored in the container, loss of profit, loss of use or business interruption, except where such loss cannot lawfully be excluded or, for consumers, where it is a foreseeable result of our breach.
- Containers moved from the original delivery address by anyone other than us, where the damage arises from that movement or lifting.
- Failure to maintain — keeping drainage clear, touching up paint damage and lubricating door gear are the owner’s responsibility.
None of the exclusions in this section limits a consumer’s rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 where goods were not of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose or as described at the time of delivery.
4. Business customers
For business customers, the warranties above are given in place of all warranties, conditions and other terms implied by statute or common law, which are excluded to the fullest extent permitted by law. That exclusion does not extend to the terms implied by section 12 of the Sale of Goods Act 1979 as to title, which cannot lawfully be excluded, and it applies only so far as it is reasonable under the Unfair Contract Terms Act 1977. Our liability is limited as set out in our Terms and Conditions. Business customers must notify defects within 7 days of delivery for anything reasonably apparent on inspection.
5. Making a warranty claim
- Email info@blueportcontainer.com as soon as the problem appears, and in any event within the warranty period.
- Include your order number, the container number stamped on the unit, a description of the problem, the date it appeared, and clear photographs — including the inside during or shortly after rain if you are reporting a leak, and the base the container is standing on.
- We acknowledge within 2 working days and may ask for further information or arrange an inspection. Please give us reasonable access.
- Where a claim is valid, we will repair the container on site where practical, or arrange collection and repair, replacement or a refund, at our reasonable option.
- Where a claim is not covered, we will explain why in writing and can quote for a chargeable repair.
Continue to keep the container secure and, if possible, take steps to limit further damage while a claim is assessed.
6. Repairs and remedies
- Repairs are carried out by us or by a contractor we appoint. Repairs made by others without our agreement are not reimbursable.
- Replacement containers will be of the same size and grade; an exact match of colour or markings cannot be guaranteed on used units.
- A repair or replacement does not extend the original warranty period, except that the repaired element carries the remainder of the original period or 30 days, whichever is longer.
- Consumers exercising the short-term right to reject within 30 days, or the final right to reject after a failed remedy, are dealt with under our Returns Policy and Refund Policy. That 30-day right to reject faulty goods is separate from the 14-day change-of-mind cancellation right described in the Returns Policy.
7. Looking after your container
To keep cover valid and the container serviceable:
- Keep it level on a firm base, with the ground draining away from it.
- Ventilate it, and never store damp goods in a sealed box.
- Touch up scratches and chips in the paint before rust takes hold.
- Lubricate hinges and locking gear a couple of times a year.
- Keep the roof clear of standing water, leaves and debris.
- Do not overload the roof or stack anything on it.
8. Transferability
Warranty cover is given to the original purchaser and is not transferable on resale unless we agree in writing. This does not affect a consumer’s statutory rights against us as the original seller.
