40ft Used Shipping Container

Forty feet is the largest standard ISO container made, and used stock is where it makes the most financial sense. These are ex-shipping-line units retired from ocean service: well used, honestly graded, and guaranteed structurally sound and wind and watertight. For bulk storage measured in truckloads rather than pallets, nothing else comes close on cost per square foot.

The 12.19 m external length gives roughly twice the floor area of a 20ft unit for well under twice the price, which is why it is the usual starting point for conversion work. Line-out and insulate, door and window cut-ins, partition walls, or a full respray to a RAL color of your choice are all available at additional cost.

Plan the delivery before you buy. A 40ft container needs a clear straight run for the truck and about 60 ft of hard standing to set down cleanly. If access is tight, two 20ft units will often solve the same storage problem with far less delivery risk — tell us the site constraints and we will say which way to go.

Conversions and Related 40ft Stock

At 12.19 m externally this is the largest standard container size, which is why it is the usual starting point for line-out and insulate work, door and window cut-ins, or a full respray to a RAL color of your choice. If you want a cleaner shell for a conversion, look at the 40ft x 8ft used standard storage container, or the CSC plated used 40ft cargo worthy containers if the unit still needs to travel by sea.

The buyer’s guide covers what to check on a used 40ft before you commit, and the full range is in the shipping container category.
