Site Cabin Microwave

A 700 watt countertop microwave for canteen and mess cabins. Providing a means of heating food is part of the welfare provision expected on a UK construction site under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, and a microwave is the simplest way to cover it — it needs a socket and a stable worktop, and nothing else.

Check the circuit before you order

The thing worth checking is not the microwave, it is what else is already on the ring. A canteen cabin running a water boiler and a fridge does not have unlimited spare capacity, and a microwave added to a loaded circuit is how a welfare unit ends up tripping at every break. Confirm the free socket capacity in the unit first — and if there is not any, that is an argument for a second cabin or an additional circuit rather than an extension lead.

Siting and quantity

Keep the microwave well away from the sink, and allow ventilation clearance at the back and at the sides. On crew sizes above about a dozen, one 700 watt unit becomes the bottleneck at lunch — most compounds of that size run two rather than accept the queue.

Delivery is free throughout the UK, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey included, and no VAT is added at checkout, so the price shown is what you pay. It ships as a boxed appliance requiring no lifting plant, and is easily added to a cabin order so the canteen is usable on the day the unit is set down. Fourteen days to change your mind apply under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, and a separate 30-day right to reject faulty goods applies under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
