Instead of building a small container from scratch, we take an ex-shipping-line 40ft shell and shorten it — one donor typically yields four 10ft units — new rear panels and corner posts are fabricated in, and the unit is finished properly. Each unit is prepared and resprayed inside and out before it is dispatched, so what turns up looks a great deal better than the shell it was cut from.

Read this before you buy: it cannot ship
Cutting the shell voids the container’s CSC certification permanently. That makes this a static storage unit and nothing else — it cannot legally be loaded and moved as freight by road, rail or sea. For most buyers that is irrelevant, because the container is going into a yard and staying there. But if there is any chance the box will need to travel loaded, or that you will want to resell it to someone who needs an export-capable unit, buy a plated 10ft one-trip instead and accept the higher price.
The other thing worth knowing is that 10ft is only a convention. The same process will cut to whatever length a site will take. Where the gap you are filling is an awkward size, send us the dimension instead of designing around a standard one.
Where a short container fits
Narrow yards, allotment and community garden stores, school grounds, tight residential driveways, courtyard compounds and rooftop plant areas. Because the unit is short and comparatively light at around 1,300 kg, it is far easier to place — and to move again later — than a 20ft or 40ft box.
Delivery, siting and cover
Delivery is free across the UK, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey included, and the price shown is the total payable with no VAT added at checkout. The low weight is the practical advantage here: a 10ft unit can often be placed by a HIAB-equipped lorry that lifts it over a wall or hedge into a position a tilt-bed could never reach. Crane or HIAB offload is agreed in writing before delivery. Firm, level ground still matters — a shortened shell will twist and its doors will bind if the base is soft on one corner.
Supplied wind and watertight, it is covered for three months from delivery against water ingress and for correct door operation. Separately from that, you have 14 days to cancel under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, and a distinct 30-day right to reject the container if it is faulty.
Cut down or one trip?
A cut down unit wins on cost because the raw material is a used 40ft shell. If you want a factory-built small container instead, look at the 10ft x 8ft one trip container — CSC plated, and still able to ship.
