A 20ft container converted into a multi-tenant storage block: four individual roll-up doors along the side, and movable internal partitions that let the same shell be let as two, three or four separate bays. For a self-storage operator that turns one piece of hardstanding into several income streams, and it means the unit can be reconfigured when demand changes rather than rebuilt. Finished in blue, and built to be worked hard.

Dimensions and bay layout

  • External: 6.058 × 2.438 × 2.591 m (19 ft 10 in × 8 ft 0 in × 8 ft 6 in)
  • Internal length available to divide: approximately 5.9 m (19 ft 4 in)
  • Doors: four individual roll-up doors
  • Partitions: movable, giving two, three or four lettable bays

Why movable partitions matter more than door count

Four doors on their own would only ever give you four small units. The partitions are what make the asset flexible: a site that starts with four quarter-bays can consolidate to two halves when a customer needs more room, then split back again when they leave. Demand in self-storage rarely arrives in the size you built for, and a fixed subdivision means turning away the customer who wants one and a half bays. Being able to move a wall in an afternoon is the difference between a full block and a half-let one.

Where it fits

The obvious buyer is a self-storage yard adding capacity without planning a building. Beyond that: commercial landlords letting secure lock-ups alongside workshop units, marinas and caravan sites offering seasonal storage, allotment and equestrian sites, and farms letting spare yard space. Roll-up doors suit all of these because they open the full bay width without a swing radius, so units can sit close to a fence or back-to-back in a row.

Siting and delivery

UK delivery is free, including Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey, and the price shown is the total payable — no VAT is added at checkout. Two things are worth planning before it arrives. First, the ground: a fully let storage block is heavy and must bear evenly at all four corners or the roll-up doors will bind. Second, the approach side: all four doors are on one face, so the unit needs to be set down with that face into open circulation space, not against a wall. Crane or HIAB offload is agreed in writing before delivery. Conversion workmanship is covered for 12 months, and separately you have 14 days to change your mind under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 and a 30-day right to reject faulty goods under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Scaling a self-storage site

Operators running a bigger yard usually put this alongside the 40ft high cube multi-store container with seven bays, which buys capacity on much the same area of hardstanding. Where two entry points will do, the yellow 20ft container with dual side roll-up doors costs less; where a single tenant takes the whole unit, a 20ft container with a roller shutter door is normally the better answer. Capacities across the storage container range are worth comparing, and you can ask us to quote once you know the partition layout and door count you want.
