A 40ft refrigerated shipping container built around Daikin refrigeration. On a reefer the machine matters more than the box, because that is the part running continuously and the part an engineer has to service, and Daikin is one of the better-supported names for exactly that reason. Practically, the benefit shows up after every door opening: the set point recovers quickly once the doors close, which is what keeps product in specification on a site where people are in and out through the day.
External and internal dimensions
- External: 12.19 × 2.44 × 2.90 m (40 ft × 8 ft × 9 ft 6 in)
- Internal: approximately 11.49 × 2.27 × 2.20 m (37 ft 8 in × 7 ft 5 in × 7 ft 3 in)
- Door opening: approximately 2.34 m wide × 2.58 m high (7 ft 8 in × 8 ft 6 in)
- Internal length is shorter than a dry 40ft because the machinery pack occupies the front wall
Specification
- Daikin refrigeration unit, specified for precise cold storage duty
- Insulated interior panels holding a consistent internal temperature
- Heavy-gauge steel construction rated for marine service
- Lockable double doors at the rear
- CSC plated and ISO certified, so it remains legal for intermodal movement as well as static use
Why the make of machine is the specification
Buyers tend to compare reefers on size and price and then discover that the thing determining running cost and downtime is the refrigeration pack. A widely supported unit like the Daikin means parts are available through normal commercial refrigeration channels in the UK, and most refrigeration engineers will already know the controller rather than needing a reefer specialist. If you are matching a new unit to an existing service contract or an existing refrigerant stock, the make is worth checking before the size.
Confirm before you order
- Power. Reefer machinery normally needs a three-phase supply, correctly rated and terminated for a reefer plug
- Clearance. Leave working space at the machinery end so the condenser can draw air and an engineer can reach the pack
- A level pad, so the T-bar floor drains properly and the doors seal squarely rather than binding
- Your target band. Chiller duty and true freezer duty are different specifications; tell us the set point and we will confirm the machine suits it
Delivery and your cover
Delivery is free across the UK mainland, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey, and the price on the page is the total payable because no VAT is added at checkout. A loaded 40ft reefer is a heavy, long delivery: allow a straight approach for an articulated tilt-bed and check overhead clearance against the 2.90 metre high cube height. If the position cannot be reached by tilt-bed and needs a crane or HIAB offload, that is agreed in writing before delivery rather than assumed either way. The container is supplied wind and watertight and carries three months’ cover on that basis against water ingress and door operation. Your statutory rights sit alongside it: 14 days to change your mind under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, and a separate 30-day right to reject the goods if they are faulty under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
Comparable 40ft machines
Compare it against the one-trip 2023 Thermo King 40ft reefer if a near-new machine matters, or the used 40ft Carrier ThinLINE high cube at the value end. The full reefer container range runs from 10ft to 40ft, and our shipping policy sets out lead times and the access a loaded reefer needs.
