A used 40ft high cube steel shipping container, sold wind and water tight and suited to secure storage or onward shipping. The 9 ft 6 in profile carries a full foot more internal height than a standard 40ft, which is what puts it in front of on-site storage, farm buildings, commercial stockholding and conversion work. This is a representative example of the grade we stock rather than a single serialised unit, so expect the individual container delivered to differ cosmetically from the photographs.
Dimensions
- External: 12.19 × 2.44 × 2.90 m (40 ft 0 in × 8 ft 0 in × 9 ft 6 in)
- Internal: approximately 12.00 × 2.35 × 2.70 m (39 ft 4 in × 7 ft 9 in × 8 ft 10 in)
- Door opening: approximately 2.29 m wide (7 ft 6 in), double doors at one end
- Floor: marine-grade plywood, 28 mm (1⅛ in)
Specification
- Guaranteed wind and water tight, sealed to keep stored goods dry
- Heavy-duty steel construction built for ocean freight
- Lockable double doors at one end with working locking gear
- Structurally sound: good doors, seals and floor integrity
- Corner castings intact on all eight corners for craning and stacking
Honestly, what does used look like?
- Shipping line paint as it came, usually carrying patch repairs and visible branding
- Years in service leave surface rust and cosmetic dents, which are cleaned back rather than hidden
- Gaskets and locking gear are checked and working before the unit is released
- No rust-through, holes or frame damage: that is where the grade line sits
Siting the container
- Allow roughly 18 m of straight, firm approach for a tilt-bed delivery
- Set the unit on railway sleepers, blocks or a level pad so the doors stay square
- Leave around 1.8 m of clear swing space in front of the double doors
- Check gateway widths and overhead cables before the delivery date, not on the day
Delivery, cover and your rights
Delivery is free to any UK address, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey included, and no VAT is added at checkout — the figure shown is the total payable, not a pre-tax price. Where your site cannot take a tilt-bed and a crane or HIAB offload is needed, that is agreed in writing before delivery. Because this unit is graded wind and water tight it carries 3 months of cover from delivery: dry inside, doors operating. Separately from that cover, you keep 14 days to change your mind under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 and 30 days to reject the goods if they are faulty under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Stock of a similar grade includes the 40ft HC used wind and watertight container, and also the 40ft x 8ft used high cube. Where the extra height is not wanted, the standard-height 40ft used storage container comes in cheaper again. Sizing, grading and site preparation are all covered in our container buying guide, while every length we carry in this profile appears in the full 9ft 6in high cube lineup.
