Description

No standard shell we sell is bigger than this one, and the high cube profile is what sets it apart: 12.00 m of internal length with 2.70 m of internal height. Plant and excavator storage is where it goes most often, for the simple reason that the additional foot of headroom against a standard 40ft frequently decides whether a machine gets under the roof at all. Stock comes out of shipping-line fleets and is sold wind and watertight. These shells have earned a living and the paint shows it; the undertaking is on the structure and the seals, which is precisely what storage depends on.

Dimensions and weight

  • External: 12.19 × 2.44 × 2.90 m (40 ft 0 in × 8 ft 0 in × 9 ft 6 in)
  • Internal: 12.00 × 2.35 × 2.70 m (39 ft 4 in × 7 ft 9 in × 8 ft 10 in)
  • Door opening: 2.34 m wide × 2.59 m high (7 ft 8 in × 8 ft 6 in)
  • Weight: 3,750 kg (8,267 lb)
  • Floor: 28 mm marine plywood on steel cross members

Condition and build

  • Ex-shipping-line stock, sold wind and watertight
  • Exterior hinged double doors at one end, two locking bars per leaf
  • Four vents
  • Two forklift pockets per side
  • Cor-Ten weathering steel construction
  • Graded on structure, door gear, seals and floor, not on appearance
  • Cosmetic condition: used — expect dents, scrapes and patch paint

Plan the delivery before you buy

This is the point on which 40ft purchases most often go wrong. A 40ft unit needs a clear straight approach and roughly 18 m of firm, level ground to set down cleanly, and at 3,750 kg tare both craning and tilt-bed placement want ground that will not rut. Where access is marginal, two 20ft units frequently solve the same storage problem with far less delivery risk — you lose a little floor area to the second set of end walls and gain a great deal of flexibility. Tell us the site constraints and we will say honestly which way to go.

Is wind and watertight enough?

For dry goods, plant, tools and racked stock, yes — that is exactly what the grade is for. Where it is not enough is anything moisture-sensitive stored long term without ventilation, or anything that needs a certified box for onward sea freight, which is a cargo worthy question rather than a wind and watertight one. Our container condition and grading guide spells out where each grade starts and stops.

Delivery, cover and your rights

Delivery is free throughout the UK including Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey, and the price shown is the total payable because no VAT is added at checkout. Crane or HIAB offload, where the site needs it, is agreed in writing before delivery. As a wind and watertight unit this container carries 3 months of cover from delivery — dry inside, doors operating. That sits alongside your statutory rights rather than replacing them: 14 days to cancel under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, and separately 30 days to reject the goods if they are faulty under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Related units

Two close comparisons: the 40ft used HC shipping and storage container and the 40ft HC used wind and watertight container. Drop back to a standard roof height and the standard-height 40ft x 8ft used storage container is cheaper again, while a tight approach is often better answered by a pair of Grade A used 20ft high cubes. Every length we hold at this height is on the high cube containers page.
