40 Ft HC Used Shipping Containers High Cube Wind And Watertight

In Stock

£1,299.00

Graded on structure, seals and floor rather than appearance: sound doors, serviceable rubber gaskets and a solid timber floor, guaranteed wind and watertight. The 9ft 6in profile adds a full foot of internal clearance over a standard 40ft, which is what makes it the default for racking.

Description

A used 40ft high cube shipping container, graded wind and watertight. Externally it stands 9 ft 6 in where a standard 40ft stands 8 ft 6 in, and that additional foot inside is the reason the high cube has become the default at this length: it takes pallet racking, it swallows bulky machinery, and you can walk from one end to the other without ducking. These are ex-service boxes, bought on what they are structurally rather than on how they look — which is why they cost a fraction of one-trip stock and store precisely as well.

Dimensions

  • External: 12.19 × 2.44 × 2.90 m (40 ft 0 in × 8 ft 0 in × 9 ft 6 in)
  • Internal: approximately 12.00 × 2.35 × 2.70 m (39 ft 4 in × 7 ft 9 in × 8 ft 10 in)
  • Door opening: approximately 2.34 m wide × 2.59 m high (7 ft 8 in × 8 ft 6 in)

What the grade guarantees

  • Wind and watertight, verified at the door line, across the roof and along the floor edge
  • Corrugated Cor-Ten weathering steel to the walls and the roof
  • Lockable full-width double doors at one end, locking bars operating as they should
  • Rubber gaskets in serviceable order, renewed before dispatch where they are not
  • A solid timber floor carried on steel cross members
  • Air vents to hold condensation down, and lashing points inside
  • Eight corner castings, so it cranes and twist-locks like any other ISO box

Being honest about the cosmetics

Expect surface rust on a used unit, along with old shipping line paint and the cosmetic dents that go with a working life. At this grade none of that counts as a fault; it is what the grade describes. What we check and stand behind is the structure, the seals and the floor: that the doors close and latch, that the gaskets seal, that the roof does not pond and the floor has no soft spots. If appearance matters because the container will be visible from a house or a customer car park, budget for a respray or buy a tidier grade. How this grade sits against cargo worthy and one-trip stock is set out in our shipping container grading guide.

Where these end up

  • Storage that stays put: yards, farms and construction compounds
  • Overflow from a warehouse, and stock that only moves with the season
  • A shell to put racking, shelving and a tool store inside
  • Donor units for conversions, workshop builds and multi-bay storage runs

Delivery, siting and cover

Delivery is free across the UK and that includes Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey. No VAT is added at checkout, so the price you see is the total payable. A 40ft box is the hardest size to place: allow roughly 18 m of firm, level ground and a long straight approach for a tilt-bed, and check gateways and overhead cables before you commit — where access is marginal, two 20ft units often solve the same storage problem with far less delivery risk. Crane or HIAB offload is agreed in writing before delivery. As a wind and watertight unit it is covered for 3 months from delivery against water ingress and door operation. Your statutory rights sit alongside that: 14 days to change your mind under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, and a separate 30-day right to reject the goods if they are faulty.

Better-presented alternatives

Where the cosmetics do matter, there are tidier examples to be had: the 40ft high cube in excellent condition, and the 40ft used HC storage container. When near-new paintwork is the requirement, the step up is the 40ft one-trip high cube. Every size we stock at this height is on the high cube container category page, and the delivery and placement policy covers site access and lead times.
