Description
A new 40ft shipping container in one-trip grade, offered as a standard-height box or a high cube. Both share an identical footprint, are handled identically on delivery and cost the same to site; the only thing that separates them is 0.31 m of height. That single foot is what decides whether a second tier of racking clears, whether a mini-excavator goes in upright, and whether a conversion can take a framed and insulated ceiling and still leave standing room underneath.

How to decide between the two heights
Work backwards from the tallest thing going inside, then add for what you will build. If the container stays an empty shell holding pallets and boxes, standard height is the cheaper and perfectly adequate answer. If you are fitting racking, storing plant, or lining and insulating the walls and ceiling for a workshop or office, take the high cube — insulation and a ceiling frame will eat 100 to 150 mm before you have stood anything on the floor. A high cube also stacks and craned-lifts exactly as a standard box does, so there is no handling penalty for the extra height.

Distributors adding overflow warehousing without a planning-heavy build. Contractors who need a lockable plant and tool store on a compound. Fabricators using the shell as the base for a workshop. Farms and estates keeping feed, machinery and seasonal kit out of the weather. At 40ft the unit holds roughly twice the floor area of a 20ft box for well under twice the delivered cost, which is usually the deciding argument.
Delivery, siting and cover
UK delivery is free — mainland Britain, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey — and no VAT is added at checkout, so the figure on this page is the figure you pay. A 40ft unit is the least forgiving size to site: allow a long straight approach and roughly 18 m of firm, level ground for a tilt-bed drop, and be honest with us about gate widths and overhead cables before you order. Where a crane or HIAB offload is needed, that is agreed in writing before delivery. As one-trip stock these units carry 12 months of cover against structural defects and water ingress. You also keep 14 days to cancel under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 and, separately, 30 days to reject the goods if they turn out to be faulty.
