Description
A 20ft insulated steel container retro-fitted with commercial refrigeration and offered as either a freezer or a cooler. The reason to look at this one rather than an integral reefer is the electrical supply. Container refrigeration almost always demands three-phase, which quietly rules it out for a great many restaurants, farm buildings, village shops and small commercial units. This unit runs on 220V single phase, so in many cases it connects to what is already on site rather than triggering a supply upgrade that costs more than the container.
Size and build
- External: 6.06 × 2.44 × 2.59 m (20 ft × 8 ft × 8 ft 6 in)
- Insulated steel container shell, wind and weather resistant
- Food-grade stainless steel interior finish throughout
- Weatherproof compressor housing, so the plant sits outdoors without additional shelter
- Fully mobile: it can be relocated as the operation changes rather than being built in
Refrigeration
- 2022 Copeland scroll digital compressor, a standard commercial component rather than a proprietary reefer pack
- 2022 Larkin indoor evaporator, for even temperature distribution across the box
- Power: 220V single phase
- Freezer model: holds down to approximately -21 °C (-5 °F)
- Cooler model: holds approximately 1 to 4 °C (34 to 39 °F)
Freezer or cooler: choosing the model
Both versions use the identical shell; what separates them is how the system is configured and controlled. The cooler holds roughly 1 to 4 °C, the band that suits produce, dairy, beverages, floral stock and short-hold prepared food. The freezer runs down to about -21 °C for meat, seafood and anything held frozen. Tell us what you are storing and we will confirm the right configuration before it ships, because converting between the two afterwards is a refrigeration job rather than a setting change.
The serviceability argument
An integral reefer machine is a specialist item: when it faults you need someone who works on reefers. The Copeland and Larkin combination here is ordinary commercial refrigeration equipment, which means any competent local refrigeration contractor can diagnose it, source parts through normal channels and service it on a routine contract. For an operator a long way from a reefer engineer, that is often worth more than a few degrees of range. It also avoids the construction route entirely: no walk-in build, no permits for a cold room, no groundworks beyond a level standing.
Delivery and cover
Delivery is free across the UK mainland and to Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey, and the price shown is the total payable because no VAT is added at checkout. A 20ft goes in on a tilt-bed and slides off onto level, load-bearing ground; allow roughly twice the container’s length as a clear run for the vehicle. Where the position needs a crane or HIAB offload, that is agreed in writing before delivery. Because the refrigeration here is a retro-fit rather than a factory pack, that fit-out work carries our 12-month cover on workmanship. The container itself is a used insulated shell, refurbished rather than new, and is supplied on that basis. Alongside all of it you keep two separate statutory rights: 14 days to change your mind under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, and 30 days to reject the goods if they are faulty under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
Alternatives worth comparing
Want an integral machine on the same footprint? That is the used 20ft reefer containers. Deeper freezing duty points instead to the 20ft Thermo King freezer container, while a smaller site is usually better matched to the 10ft compact freezer reefer.
