20ft Used Reefer Containers

On a used reefer, condition is really two questions: the box and the machine. Cosmetically these carry the paint and patch repairs of commercial service. Mechanically, every one goes through a full Pre-Trip Inspection before it leaves us, so the compressor, controller, fans and defrost cycle have all been run.

Description

A used 20ft refrigerated container, supplied wind and watertight with the machinery tested rather than assumed. Buying a used reefer means judging two separate things that people tend to collapse into one. The box is cosmetically honest: it carries the paint, the patch repairs and the scuffs of commercial cargo service, and it is priced accordingly. The machine is a different question entirely, and it is the one that matters, which is why every unit goes through a full Pre-Trip Inspection before it goes out.

Dimensions

  • External: 6.06 × 2.44 × 2.90 m (20 ft × 8 ft × 9 ft 6 in)
  • Internal: approximately 5.43 × 2.28 × 2.26 m (17 ft 10 in × 7 ft 6 in × 7 ft 5 in)
  • Door opening: approximately 2.34 m wide × 2.58 m high (7 ft 8 in × 8 ft 6 in)
  • Inside cubic capacity: around 28.3 m³

Specification

  • Temperature range approximately -25 to +25 °C
  • Full Pre-Trip Inspection completed on every unit before delivery
  • Stainless interior walls, easy to clean and corrosion resistant
  • Insulated envelope holding a stable internal temperature
  • Wind and watertight, sealed against weather and vermin

What “used” actually means on a reefer

With a dry container, used means dents, surface rust and mismatched paint. With a refrigerated container it means all of that plus a service history you cannot see. A PTI is what closes that gap: the compressor, the controller, the evaporator and condenser fans and the defrost cycle are all run and verified under load before the unit is released. A gamble and a used reefer are separated by exactly that test. What is bought is a proven machine inside a cosmetically honest shell, for a fraction of what a one-trip unit costs. Expect the marks. Do not expect a surprise from the machinery.

Before it arrives

  • Confirm your power supply first — reefer machinery generally needs three-phase, correctly rated and terminated
  • Leave clearance at the machinery end for airflow and for future servicing access
  • Site it on level ground: the T-bar floor needs to drain and the door gaskets need to seat evenly
  • Bring the box down to temperature before loading — a reefer maintains a temperature, it does not pull down a warm load

Delivery and cover

Delivery is free anywhere in the UK, taking in Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey, and the price shown is the total payable because no VAT is added at checkout. Stock sits at depots around the country and travels direct to your site rather than through a central yard. A 20ft comes in on a tilt-bed and needs roughly twice its own length as a clear approach, plus firm, level standing at the end of it. Where the position rules that out and a crane or HIAB offload is the answer, that is agreed in writing before delivery. Supplied wind and watertight, the shell is covered on that basis for three months against water ingress and door operation. Two further rights sit alongside it and are separate from one another: 14 days to change your mind under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, and 30 days to reject the goods if they are faulty under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Other 20ft options

Grading across our stock is explained in the container condition guide. Anyone after a later machine should look at the 2021 Thermo King 20ft reefer, and sites limited to single-phase power are better off with the 20ft mobile cold storage freezer and cooler, which runs on 220V. Specifications covering working and non-operational units alike appear on the 20ft refrigerated containers page; reefer containers holds the range as a whole.
