Container Door Stay

Container doors are heavy, they hang on four hinges, and in a gust they swing. A door stay holds the leaf open at a fixed position so it cannot slam — which protects the hinges and the door gear, and more importantly protects anyone standing in the opening.

It is worth fitting on any exposed site, but it becomes close to essential where a container is opened repeatedly through the day: a compound gate store, a tool container on an open yard, or anywhere on a coastal or ridge-top site where wind loading is a daily fact rather than an occasional one.

Fitting takes no tools. Open the door, lift the stay into position and drop it in, tighten the support, insert the locking pin and fasten the clip. When the door is closed the stay folds flat against it, so nothing protrudes to catch on a passing forklift. Construction is powder-coated steel throughout.

Fitting and Everyday Use

Because the stay needs no drilling, welding or permanent fixings, it can be moved between containers or removed altogether when a unit is sold on. It is a straightforward safety item on any site where doors are left open during loading: a full-height steel door leaf catching a gust is heavy enough to injure someone or wreck the hinges. Civic amenity sites and self-storage yards fit them as standard for exactly that reason.

Door stays are usually bought alongside the rest of a container’s hardware – a high-security container padlock for the lock box and a solar floodlight for out-of-hours access.
