Description

Margins in small-scale coffee are thin, and a fixed shopfront asks you to carry its ongoing overheads and its fit-out bill long before a single cup earns anything back. Converting a container sidesteps most of that. What you end up with is a small, lockable, self-contained trading unit that will stand on a car park corner, a marina, a market, a park or a vacant plot, and can be moved again when the pitch changes hands. Why high cube is usually worth the extra

The 300 mm of extra height on a high cube shell sounds marginal and is not. Once you have insulation and a lining in the ceiling, plus extraction over a machine, a standard shell can feel low behind the counter for staff working a full shift. On a cafe conversion in particular — where the unit is judged by customers looking into it — the additional headroom is the single change that stops it reading as a converted box.

Permanent as often as temporary

The exposed industrial finish has stopped counting as a compromise, too — plenty of operators specify it deliberately, and it photographs well, which is no small thing for a business that lives on local social media.

Before ordering, confirm the pitch dimensions, the power supply available and whether your local authority requires consent for the siting — those three answers determine the whole build. The standing must be firm and level at all four corners, and crane or HIAB offload is agreed in writing before delivery. Conversion workmanship is covered for 12 months, with your separate statutory rights alongside it: 14 days to change your mind under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, and 30 days to reject the goods if faulty under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
