Portable Buildings

Description

What we mean by portable buildings is a container shell fitted out as somewhere to work: a site office, a workshop, a store with a bench down one side. Nothing is added to hold it up, because the container already does that — and the rest follows. It stays wind and watertight, vermin cannot get in, and it can be craned onto a lorry whole and set down on the next job without being taken apart. Pick the shell size, then specify the fit-out.

• Access: roller shutters, heavy-duty personnel doors, emergency push-bar exits
• Inside and out: partition walls, security windows, ramps, retractable awnings

Relocatability is usually the deciding factor

Most buyers arrive here because of what happens when the job ends. Blockwork gets knocked down or sold at a loss; this is lifted and taken to whatever comes next. Mobile trades put it more bluntly — mechanics, fabricators, electricians, plumbers get a workshop that travels to the breakdown rather than a breakdown dragged back to the workshop. The argument holds at domestic scale too: a converted shell in the yard is dry, insulated, lockable, and it leaves when you do.

Specify the use, not the product

That options list runs long because these are built to a brief, not picked off a shelf. A welding bay wants ventilation, a hard floor and heavy benching; an office wants insulation, glazing and partitions; a secure store wants racking and no windows at all. Describe the job and the site, and we will work the specification back from that — a more reliable route than starting from an options list.

Delivery, siting and cover

Free delivery covers the whole UK, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey included, and the price shown is the total payable with no VAT added at checkout. Access requirements follow the shell you choose rather than the fit-out: a 10 ft building can be placed almost anywhere a HIAB can reach, whereas a 40 ft shell needs the same straight approach and standing as any 40ft container. A fitted-out building is heavier than an empty shell, so tell us the specification when we plan the lift. HIAB or crane offload is agreed in writing before delivery, and the building sets down on level, load-bearing pads at the corners without a slab. Because each one is built to a brief, allow the 2 to 6 week made-to-order band in our shipping policy. The conversion work carries 12 months on workmanship in line with our warranty policy, and separately you have 14 days to change your mind under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 and 30 days to reject the goods if faulty.
