A portable building here means a steel container shell converted into working space — a site office, a workshop, a secure store with a bench in it. The structure is the container itself, which is why these are wind and watertight, vermin proof and strong enough to be craned onto a truck and moved without being taken apart first.

That relocatability is usually the deciding factor. When a job finishes, the building goes to the next site rather than being demolished or sold at a loss. For trades running a mobile operation — mechanics, fabricators, electricians, plumbers — it means the workshop travels to the breakdown instead of the breakdown being hauled to the workshop. Ordering a Portable Building
