Description

Two ex-shipping-line 20ft containers in original operator livery — one USAC, one Hapag-Lloyd — most recently used for secure on-site storage during a commercial refurbishment rather than at sea. Both are structurally sound and wind and water tight, and both are standard ISO 20ft boxes suitable for storage or repurposing.

The two units

  • USAC container, 20ft — rated to a maximum gross weight of approximately 28,100 kg
  • Hapag-Lloyd container, 20ft — rated to a maximum gross weight of approximately 29,900 kg
  • Both standard 20ft ISO containers with solid steel construction
  • Both wind and water tight, suitable for tools, equipment, materials or inventory
  • Heavy-duty floors rated for forklift traffic
  • Lockable double doors for secure access

Dimensions

  • External: 6.06 × 2.44 × 2.59 m (19 ft 10 in × 8 ft 0 in × 8 ft 6 in)
  • Internal: 5.90 × 2.35 × 2.39 m (19 ft 4 in × 7 ft 9 in × 7 ft 10 in)
  • Door opening: 2.34 m wide × 2.28 m high (7 ft 8 in × 7 ft 6 in)

Why ex-line steel holds up

A container still wearing shipping line markings — USAC or Hapag-Lloyd in this case — came off a build specification written for repeated ocean service to full ISO standards: stacked nine high, loaded to 30 tonnes gross, and left in salt spray for years at a time. That is a far harsher duty than anything a static storage container will ever face, which is why ex-line units hold up so well once they stop moving.

These two have had an unusually gentle recent life. Rather than coming straight from the water, they spent their most recent service as site stores on a commercial refurbishment, which is a dry, low-impact environment by comparison. The original livery and markings remain, along with the surface wear you would expect of ex-line steel.

What they suit

Site and yard storage, workshop conversions, secure equipment stores, and conversion shells where original shipping-line livery is a feature rather than a problem. Both can be used as they are or repurposed.

Delivery, siting and cover

Delivery is free to any UK address, and that includes Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey. The price shown is the total payable, with no VAT added at checkout. Each 20ft unit is delivered separately on a tilt-bed, so if you are taking both, plan two drops and firm, level standing for each; a clear straight approach of roughly three times the container length is needed per delivery. Where the site cannot take a tilt-bed, HIAB or crane offload is agreed in writing before delivery. Mainland England and Wales is typically 3 to 7 working days.

As used ex-line stock, each container is covered for three months from delivery as wind and water tight: dry inside under normal weather conditions, with doors that open, close and lock. Cosmetic condition is excluded — the original livery, surface wear and handling marks are characteristics of the grade. Your statutory rights sit alongside as separate claims: 14 days to change your mind under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, and a 30-day right to reject the goods if they are faulty.

Comparable ex-line units

What is offered here is two specific containers, not a standing line, so availability is limited. Should they have gone, the 20ft used steel container in excellent condition is one route, with the used 20ft conex container in yellow/gold graded on exactly the same basis. How we assess ex-line steel is set out in the condition guide, with further units of this type listed under storage containers.
