Description

A new-build 20ft bulk container loaded from the roof rather than through the doors. Four top-opening hatches let a grab, conveyor or loading shovel drop material straight in from overhead, which removes the whole business of reversing a forklift into a box to stack it. Built from SPA-H weathering steel to ISO 1496-1, with 30.8 m³ of usable volume.

Dimensions and capacity

  • External: 6.058 × 2.438 × 2.896 m (19 ft 10 in × 8 ft 0 in × 9 ft 6 in)

Top loading only makes sense with the right plant

Be honest about your handling equipment before choosing this unit. Top loading is transformative if you already have a grab, a conveyor, a telehandler or a loading shovel on site, because filling becomes a single overhead movement instead of a stacking operation. If you do not have overhead plant, the roof hatches are of no use to you and an end-door container will serve better for less money.

The second consideration is discharge. Loading from above is easy; getting material back out still happens through the end doors unless you are tipping the whole unit. For materials that need to be grabbed out again from above, an open top with a tarpaulin roof is usually the cheaper and more practical answer.

Note also that the roof structure costs you internal height: 2.267 m here against 2.555 m in the equivalent end-loading unit, which is why the capacity is 30.8 m³ rather than 34.5 m³.

Suited to

Dry grain and animal feed, aggregate and sand, granulated raw materials, and any intermediate bulk storage where the filling point is above the container and the plant to reach it is already on site.

Delivery, siting and cover

Delivery is free throughout the UK, including Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey, and the price shown is the total payable with no VAT added at checkout. At 3,550 kg this is among the heavier 20ft units, and the siting question is unusual: you need firm level ground for the container and clear airspace directly above it for the loading plant to work. Check for cables, gantries and low branches over the intended position, not just along the approach. HIAB or crane offload is agreed in writing before delivery. As a made-to-order unit, allow 2 to 6 weeks.

New stock carries our 12-month warranty against structural defects and water ingress, covering the roof and hatches, panels, underframe, door gear and floor structure. Separately, you have 14 days to change your mind under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 and a distinct 30-day right to reject the goods if they are faulty.

End loading and open top alternatives

Sites where a forklift can reach the doors are usually better served by the end-door 20ft ISO bulk storage dry cargo container, which carries slightly more volume on the same duty. If the material is loose spoil, scrap or aggregate and it will be grabbed out from above again, a tarpaulin-roofed 20ft open top container normally costs less.
