Description

A used 20ft container that has been cut and converted to take a heavy-duty roller shutter in one side wall, then fully repainted in green. The shell is second-hand rather than factory-fresh, which is the whole point: you pay for the conversion work and the access it buys, not for new steel. The original cargo doors are untouched at the end, so the unit keeps full-width loading as well. It suits anyone who needs to open up quickly and often — a workshop, a lock-up served daily by trades, a pop-up or event unit that trades from the long side.

Dimensions

  • External: 6.06 × 2.44 × 2.59 m (19 ft 11 in × 8 ft 0 in × 8 ft 6 in)
  • Internal: 5.90 × 2.35 × 2.39 m (19 ft 4 in × 7 ft 9 in × 7 ft 10 in)
  • Original cargo door opening: 2.34 × 2.28 m (7 ft 8 in × 7 ft 6 in)
  • Side shutter: one heavy-duty roller shutter in the long wall — width confirmed at order

What has been done to it

  • One heavy-duty roller shutter fitted to the side wall, with a reinforced steel frame around the opening
  • Full exterior repaint in a weather-resistant green finish
  • Original hinged cargo doors retained at the end, with their locking bars
  • Ground-level entry — no ramp or dock required
  • Lock-ready and wind and watertight

Why a side shutter beats end doors on a tight pitch

Hinged cargo doors swing outward and need roughly 1.5 metres of clear space in front of them before they open fully. That is precisely the space you do not have when a container is reversed into a yard corner or set tight against a building. Because the shutter travels straight up into its own housing, no swing room is called for at all, and what opens up is a stretch of the long flank instead of one end. For a bench, a serving hatch or a shop front, that single difference decides whether the unit is usable or just a box.

It is also faster in daily use. A shutter goes up one-handed; twin locking bars on a pair of cargo doors do not.

Being clear about the grade

This is a converted used shell, not a new build. Expect a sound, dry, wind and watertight container whose steel has been in service: minor dents, previous repairs and paint of more than one age underneath the new topcoat are characteristics of the grade rather than faults, and they are the reason it costs less than the equivalent new-build conversion. Our container condition guide sets out what each grade guarantees.

Because the shell is used, cover is the wind-and-watertight term: three months from delivery against water ingress and door operation. The shutter and the fabrication work done to fit it carry 12 months on workmanship.

Delivery and siting

Delivery is free across the UK, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey included, and the price shown is the total payable — no VAT is added at checkout. Plan the pitch around the shutter rather than the doors: the side that carries the shutter needs to be the accessible side, with hardstanding in front of it for barrows, trolleys or a pallet truck. Delivery is by tilt-bed, which needs firm level ground and a straight approach; if the only way onto the pitch is a crane lift, that must be agreed in writing beforehand. Your 14-day cancellation right under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 and your separate 30-day right to reject faulty goods under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 both apply as normal.

Comparable conversions

If you would rather have the same conversion on a fresh shell, the new-build 20ft roller shutter conversion is the direct equivalent. Other side-access options include the 20ft used container with a roller shutter door and the matte black 20ft with a 12 ft side roll-up door. Every conversion we carry is listed under modified containers.
