Description

The new-build version of our 20ft side-shutter conversion. A fresh shell is cut for a heavy-duty roller shutter in the long wall, the opening is framed and reinforced, and the whole exterior is coated in green. Nothing about the shutter gear has been used before, and the container underneath has not spent a decade in the freight system. If the unit is going somewhere it will be seen — a forecourt, a customer-facing yard, a pitch held on someone else’s terms with a landlord to satisfy — that is usually what justifies the difference over a converted used shell.

Size and openings

  • External: 6.06 × 2.44 × 2.59 m (19 ft 11 in × 8 ft 0 in × 8 ft 6 in)
  • Internal: 5.90 × 2.35 × 2.39 m (19 ft 4 in × 7 ft 9 in × 7 ft 10 in)
  • End cargo doors: 2.34 × 2.28 m clear opening (7 ft 8 in × 7 ft 6 in)
  • Side shutter: single heavy-duty roller shutter, opening width confirmed at order

Build

  • Heavy-duty roller shutter in the side wall, unused gear
  • Reinforced steel frame welded around the shutter aperture
  • Full exterior coating in a weather-resistant green finish
  • Ground-level entry, lock-ready, wind and watertight
  • Original hinged cargo doors and locking bars retained at the end

What the reinforcement actually does

Cutting a large aperture into the side of a container removes part of what makes it stiff. A container’s corrugated side wall is a structural panel, not just cladding, so an unframed opening leaves the shell prone to racking — doors that stop lining up, a shutter that binds in its guides once the unit has been lifted or sited on ground that is not quite flat. The framing welded around this aperture puts that stiffness back, which is why it matters that the work was done as a designed conversion rather than an improvisation. It is also the reason we would not recommend cutting a second opening into the same wall without the build being re-specified.

Typical buyers

  • Trades wanting a lock-up they can open one-handed several times a day
  • Retail and event operators trading from the side opening
  • Workshops where a bench needs to sit under natural light and open air
  • Storage on pitches too tight for cargo doors to swing

Delivery, ground and cover

Free delivery applies UK-wide, taking in Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey, and the price on this page is the total payable with no VAT added at checkout. The practical constraint is orientation: the shutter side has to end up facing your working area, so tell us which way round you want it before the lorry is loaded — turning a 20ft container on site is not a small job. Delivery is by tilt-bed onto firm, level ground with a straight approach; a crane offload can be arranged instead but must be agreed in writing before delivery.

The fabrication and shutter installation are covered for 12 months on workmanship. Your statutory rights run separately: 14 days to change your mind under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, and 30 days to reject the goods if they are faulty under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

How it compares

Finish mattering less than budget? The used-grade 20ft roller shutter conversion puts the same side access on an older shell. The RAL 7035 resprayed one-trip version adds a specified colour finish, and for a shorter pitch the 16ft storage container with roll-up door is the compact alternative. More conversions sit under modified containers, and our delivery information covers tilt-bed access in detail.
