20ft Custom One Trip Shipping Container – Roller Shutter & RAL 7035 Respray

The 6 ft shutter is a deliberate choice rather than a cost saving: a narrower opening leaves more of the side wall intact, so the shell keeps its stiffness and the door stays light enough to lift by hand every day. RAL 7035 grey is neutral enough to satisfy most site and planning expectations.

Description

A one-trip 20ft container fitted with a 6 ft manual roller shutter and resprayed externally in RAL 7035 light grey. The shutter is the functional half of the build and the respray is the presentational half: RAL 7035 is the pale grey used across industrial cabinets and plant rooms, neutral enough that planners and site managers rarely object to it and light enough that signage and vinyl read cleanly against it. Underneath, the shell has made a single loaded voyage, so the steel is unpitted and the door seals are new.

Dimensions and openings

  • External: 6.06 × 2.44 × 2.59 m (19 ft 11 in × 8 ft 0 in × 8 ft 6 in)
  • Internal: 5.90 × 2.35 × 2.39 m (19 ft 4 in × 7 ft 9 in × 7 ft 10 in)
  • Roller shutter: 6 ft (1.83 m) wide, manual operation
  • Original cargo doors: 2.34 × 2.28 m clear opening (7 ft 8 in × 7 ft 6 in)

The build

  • One-trip 20ft shell, like-new condition
  • 6 ft manual roller shutter installed in a framed opening
  • External respray in RAL 7035 light grey
  • Weatherproof and lock-ready throughout
  • Marine plywood floor over steel cross members

Why 6 ft rather than a full-width shutter

A 6 ft opening is a deliberate compromise and worth understanding before you commit. It is wide enough for a pallet truck, a sack barrow, a serving counter or two people working side by side, but it removes far less of the side wall than a 12 ft aperture does. Less steel removed means less framing needed, a stiffer finished unit, and a shutter that is lighter to lift by hand — which matters when it is manual rather than powered and will be operated many times a day. If you need to drive a forklift straight into the side, this is not the right width; if a person needs quick, repeated access, it usually is.

Suits

  • Retail and hospitality frontages where the shutter forms the serving opening
  • Tool and parts stores opened and closed repeatedly through a shift
  • Workshop annexes on sites where appearance is scrutinised
  • Any unit that will later be branded — the grey takes vinyl and paint well

Delivery, siting and what is covered

Delivery is free across the whole UK, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey included, and there is no VAT added at checkout — the figure shown is what you pay. Because the shutter is in the side wall, siting is about orientation as much as ground: decide which way the shutter should face and tell us, as reorienting a 20ft box after delivery means bringing plant back. The unit is delivered by tilt-bed and needs firm, level ground with a straight approach behind the drop; a crane offload is possible where a tilt-bed cannot reach, but it has to be agreed in writing before delivery.

The container is one-trip grade, so it carries 12 months against structural defects and water ingress, and the shutter installation and respray carry 12 months on workmanship. Separately from any of that, you have 14 days to cancel under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 and 30 days to reject faulty goods under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Other roller shutter builds

Closest to this without the RAL respray is the 20ft roller shutter conversion in new build. Similar access on a cheaper shell comes from the used 20ft container with a roller shutter door. Want a different shutter width, more windows, or the interior fitted out? Start instead from our 20ft modified one-trip custom builds. Conversions of every other kind sit under modified containers; send us a specification if you want something changed.
