Description

A 20ft standard storage container supplied as a new-build shell, bought for capacity rather than character. It is the plain, heavy-duty option: full ISO dimensions, a payload rating that comfortably exceeds anything a storage user will put in it, and tidy paintwork that suits a customer-facing yard. Payload is not the number that matters

Container listings quote a maximum gross weight of 30,480 kg, and it is worth being clear about what that figure is for. It is a shipping rating: the total mass the structure and corner castings are certified to carry when the box is stacked six high on a vessel in heavy seas. For static storage it is close to meaningless, because you will run out of floor area long before you approach it.

The numbers that actually govern your decision are the door opening — 2.34 m wide, which is what decides whether a pallet, a machine or a quad bike will physically go in — and the internal height of 2.39 m, which decides whether you can stack two pallets or fit racking. Check those against what you are storing before you check anything else.

Typical uses

Commercial and industrial site storage, inventory management and seasonal overflow, secure equipment lock-ups, and remote or temporary sites where a permanent building is not justified. The 20ft footprint is the most common choice because it fits a standard tilt-bed delivery and still swallows a full pallet load.

Delivery, siting and cover

UK delivery is free and includes Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey. The price shown is the total payable, with no VAT added at checkout. At 2,220 kg empty, a tilt-bed handles delivery in most cases, needing firm, level ground and a clear straight run of roughly three times the container length. On soft ground, spread the load on sleepers or slabs under the four corner castings — a container carries its weight at the corners, not along its base, and a corner that settles will pull the door frame out of square. HIAB or crane offload is agreed in writing before delivery.

Supplied as a new-build unit, it carries our 12-month warranty against structural defects and water ingress. Alongside that sit your statutory rights, which are separate claims: 14 days to change your mind under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, and a 30-day right to reject the container if it is faulty.
