Pod or container? The same steel box
“Storage pod” and “storage container” point at one and the same 20ft steel shell in most cases. What differs is how it is used rather than how it is built: pod tends to be the word people reach for when the container is a self-contained store on their own ground, and container the word they use when it is a logistics asset. Nothing about the specification changes.
It is worth knowing because the terms are priced differently elsewhere. Some suppliers charge a premium for a pod on the basis that it is a domestic product rather than an industrial one. It is the same box.
Who buys them
Homeowners storing furniture through a build or a move, contractors needing a secure site lock-up, farms and smallholdings, schools and sports clubs storing equipment, and retail operations holding seasonal stock. Ground-level loading means no ramp or dock is needed.
Delivery, siting and cover
Delivery is free across the UK, and that takes in Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey. The price shown is the total payable, with no VAT added at checkout. A 20ft unit at around 2,200 kg is normally delivered by tilt-bed, which needs firm, level ground and a clear straight approach of roughly three times the container length. The base is the part people underestimate: a container bears its weight on the four corner castings, so paving slabs or sleepers under those corners are worth more than a whole yard of loose hardcore. HIAB or crane offload is agreed in writing before delivery.
As used stock sold wind and water tight, the container is covered for three months from delivery: dry inside under normal weather conditions, with doors that open, close and lock. Cosmetic condition is excluded — expect surface rust, dents and old livery, which are characteristics of the grade rather than faults. Your statutory rights are separate: 14 days to change your mind under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, and a 30-day right to reject the goods if they are faulty.
