Description
A purpose-built 20ft store for hazardous liquids, designed around the two things that go wrong with improvised chemical storage: liquid escaping the building, and a person being unable to get out of it. A bunded floor holds any release inside the unit, a lockable stainless steel valve set into the bund wall lets that release be drawn off under control rather than mopped, ventilation ducts move vapour through the space, and an internal emergency door release means nobody working inside can be shut in. It suits industrial, agricultural and commercial sites holding diesel, oils, paints and solvents.
Dimensions
- External: 6.06 m long × 2.44 m wide × 2.90 m high (20 ft × 8 ft × 9 ft 6 in) — a high-cube shell
- Internal height: approximately 2.69 m (8 ft 10 in), giving extra headroom over a standard 20ft store
- Door opening: 2.34 m wide (7 ft 8 in)
- Finish: yellow exterior
What is fitted
- Bunded floor to contain leaks and spills within the unit
- Stainless steel lockable valve set into the bund wall for controlled drainage
- Internal emergency door release system
- Ventilation ducts for airflow and vapour management
- Heavy steel structure with secure closures
- Additional door configurations available to order
The drain valve is the detail worth understanding
Most bunded stores are sealed trays: whatever collects has to be pumped out from above, over the lip, past the stock. Setting a lockable stainless valve into the bund wall changes that job entirely — collected liquid can be drawn off at low level into a drum or a bowser without lifting anything, and the valve stays locked shut the rest of the time so the bund cannot drain accidentally or be opened casually. Stainless rather than mild steel is the right specification here because the valve is the one component that sits permanently in contact with whatever has been released.
The internal release on the doors addresses a different failure. A store like this is normally locked from outside; anyone decanting inside it needs a way out that does not depend on the person who locked it.
Understanding what this listing does and does not claim
This is a description of how the unit is built. It is not a statement that a particular store, in a particular place, holding a particular inventory, satisfies your legal obligations. What containment volume you need, what ventilation is adequate, what separation distances apply, what signage the store must carry and what — if any — approval is required are matters for you and your own competent adviser, determined by the substances and quantities involved and by the rules applying at your site. We will tell you exactly what we can build and what is fitted to it; we will not tell you that it makes you compliant.
Typical duty
- Fuel, oil and lubricant stores on depots, farms and quarry sites
- Paint and solvent storage where decanting happens in the unit
- Consolidation points for part-used and waste chemicals
- Sites needing storage separated from occupied buildings
Delivery, siting and cover
Delivery is free throughout the UK, including Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey, and the price shown is the total payable with no VAT added at checkout. Two siting points matter more here than on a general storage container. The pitch must be genuinely level, because a bund that sits out of true does not hold its volume evenly; and the doors must have clear, unobstructed swing, since the emergency release is worthless if something is parked across the exit. Delivery is by tilt-bed onto firm ground with a straight approach; a crane offload is arranged where that is not possible, agreed in writing before delivery. The unit is covered for 12 months against structural defects and water ingress, with 12 months on the workmanship of the fabrication. Separately, you have 14 days to change your mind under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 and a 30-day right to reject faulty goods under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
Related containment units
Straightforward bunded containment, without a full dangerous goods specification, is what the 20ft raised bunded store provides — or the 10ft raised bunded store for smaller volumes. Compressed gases are a separate matter and belong in our gas cylinder storage units. Anything built for hazardous materials appears under hazardous containers. Tell us the substances and the quantities you hold and we can quote a suitable specification.
