Description

An open-air gas cylinder store built on a 20ft new-build general purpose container. It carries the features of a standard dangerous goods container with one decisive change: the side walls are removed and replaced with non-spark mesh panels, so the unit ventilates completely while cylinders stay secured, sheltered from direct weather and out of casual reach. Underneath, a 300 mm bunded floor with a drainage outlet means spills are contained and the unit can be washed down.

Dimensions

  • External: 6.058 × 2.438 × 2.591 m (19 ft 10 in × 8 ft 0 in × 8 ft 6 in)
  • Bunded floor depth: 300 mm (11.8 in) with drainage outlet
  • Floor: 3 mm chequer plate steel, with removable non-spark mesh on a DG floor frame
  • Finish: full paint in the colour of your choice

Why ventilation and non-spark fittings decide this design

The reason compressed gas cylinders live outdoors is dispersal: a leak has to thin out into the air instead of collecting. Side walls in mesh deliver exactly that, and the cylinders stay enclosed and secured while it happens — a solid-walled store with vents cut into it is a compromise that works far less well. The non-spark fittings on the flooring and the personnel door follow the same logic: in an environment where a leak is the foreseeable failure, removing the obvious ignition sources is the whole point of the specification.

  • Side walls fitted with non-spark mesh framed panels
  • 3 mm chequer plate steel floor
  • 300 mm bunded floor with drainage outlet
  • Removable non-spark mesh flooring on a DG floor frame
  • Fabricated lockable non-spark personnel door
  • Emergency exit safety handle fitted on the container door
  • Two rotary roof ventilators
  • All appropriate plates and signage
  • Shelving options available

Access and daily use

A custom personnel door handles everyday access so the main container doors are not being swung open every time a single cylinder is drawn. That matters on a busy site: the fewer times the full opening is used, the less chance of cylinders being knocked or the store being left insecure. The bunded floor washing down through a single drainage outlet keeps housekeeping straightforward.

Delivery, siting and cover

Delivery is free across the UK, including Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey, and the price shown is the total payable with no VAT added at checkout. Built to order, so allow the specialist lead-time band in our shipping policy. Position is a regulatory question before it is a practical one: confirm your own separation-distance and storage obligations with the relevant authority, then fix the standing — firm, level and bearing at all four corners so the bund drains correctly to its outlet. Crane or HIAB offload is agreed in writing before delivery. Fabrication workmanship is covered for 12 months, and separately you have 14 days to change your mind under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 and a 30-day right to reject faulty goods under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Other hazardous stores we build

Shift the risk from gases to liquids and the same containment principle turns up in the 20ft open side bunded store with open mesh floor. General dangerous goods, meanwhile, belong in a 20ft hazardous goods shipping container. For explosives and detonators, see our container explosive magazines.
