Description

Purpose-built transportable steel stores for explosives, detonators, ammunition and other hazardous materials, holding from 250 kg up to 20,000 kg depending on the unit specified. Because the magazine is a container, it can be craned onto a lorry and moved on as the quarry face, mine or civil project advances, instead of being built in place and written off at the end of the works. Fully insulated, with weatherproof vents, double opening doors and an internal safety handle.

Capacity and construction

  • Storage capacity: 250 kg up to 20,000 kg, depending on unit size
  • Contents: explosives, detonators, ammunition, fireworks and other hazardous materials
  • Construction: fully insulated steel, transportable
  • Finish: white

Why insulation matters as much as security here

It is easy to think of a magazine purely as a strongbox, but temperature stability protects the product as much as the locks protect the site. Explosives and detonators are sensitive to heat cycling, and an uninsulated steel box in direct sun swings hard between day and night. Insulation flattens that, and the weatherproof vents allow the air movement needed without compromising the weather seal or the security of the enclosure.

Specification

  • Fully insulated throughout
  • Transportable and relocatable as the works move
  • Internal safety handle and lockable valve tap
  • Weatherproof vents
  • Double opening doors
  • Optional safety signage
  • Built to the specification you provide

Specifying a magazine, and the regulatory position

The quantity you intend to store is the first decision, because it fixes the size of the unit and, with it, the separation distances your site has to maintain. Be aware that the storage and siting of explosives in the UK are regulated and require a licence, and the conditions attached to it will dictate what is acceptable at your location. Confirm your own compliance obligations, and the construction standard your licence requires, with the relevant authority before ordering — the unit is built to the specification you give us, and we will confirm in writing what can be supplied.

Delivery, siting and cover

Delivery is free anywhere in the UK, including Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey, and the price shown is the total payable with no VAT added at checkout. These are built to order, so allow the specialist lead-time band in our shipping policy. Siting is dictated by your separation distances rather than by convenience, so fix the position with your licensing authority before arranging delivery; the standing must be firm and level at all four corners. Crane or HIAB offload is agreed in writing before delivery. Fabrication workmanship is covered for 12 months, and separately you have 14 days to change your mind under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 and a 30-day right to reject the goods if faulty under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Related hazardous storage

Dangerous goods that are not explosive usually go into the 20ft hazardous goods shipping container instead, and compressed gases are better held in ventilated gas cylinder storage. If the risk you are managing is spillage rather than detonation, liquid leaks are caught in a sump beneath the load by a 20ft raised bunded store. All sit alongside our other specialised containerscontact our team with your quantities and site details to start the specification.
