Description

This is the largest containment store we build. A new one-trip 40ft shell is converted through its whole length into one sealed containment area, bunded 300 mm and raised. Specify it once drum and IBC volumes have outgrown a 20ft store, or where several classes of goods have to be held apart beneath a single lockable roof rather than spread across separate compounds — one delivery, one pitch, one thing to secure and inspect instead of three.

Dimensions

  • External: 12.19 × 2.44 × 2.59 m (40 ft 0 in × 8 ft 0 in × 8 ft 6 in)
  • Internal: approximately 12.03 × 2.35 × 2.39 m (39 ft 6 in × 7 ft 9 in × 7 ft 10 in)
  • Door opening: 2.34 × 2.28 m (7 ft 8 in × 7 ft 6 in)
  • Bund depth: 300 mm (11.8 in)

Specification

  • New build, made from a one-trip container
  • 300 mm raised bund
  • 3 mm Durbar plate floor welded into the container
  • Cor-Ten steel construction throughout
  • Exterior hinged double doors at one end
  • Two locking bars on the doors
  • Factory-fitted lockbox
  • Forklift pockets
  • 48 vents
  • Blue exterior finish

How the containment is formed

The floor is 3 mm Durbar checker plate welded into the container rather than laid over the existing timber deck, and it is turned up 300 mm at the perimeter to form the bund. The result is a single continuous steel tray with no joints for liquid to track through — which is the failure mode of a lined or bolted arrangement over a 40ft run, where thermal movement alone will eventually work a seam open. The checker pattern keeps footing secure on a wet surface, and welding the plate in means point loading from drums and small plant is carried far better than the marine plywood deck it replaces ever managed.

Forty-eight vents, and why the count scales

Vent count is not a marketing number; it tracks internal volume. Forty-eight vents run the length of both sides, the highest count in the bunded range, giving continuous passive airflow across the full 40 ft. That matters most for goods that give off vapour over a long dwell time, where a large volume sealed into one space allows build-up that a 10ft store would never accumulate. It also limits condensation on the steel through temperature swings, which is a slower but equally real problem in a store that is opened infrequently.

Security, handling and site notes

  • End-hung double doors, two locking bars, factory-fitted lockbox — suited to unmanned compounds
  • Forklift pockets, so it moves when the yard layout does
  • One-trip Cor-Ten shell: straight panels, unworn door seals
  • A 40ft unit needs a long, straight approach — this is the size where site access most often decides the purchase

Building the store on a one-trip shell rather than a used one is what makes the bund dependable. The containment tray is welded into steel that has never been patched, so it is a sealed pan rather than a repair sitting on top of an older repair — which is the failure point on a retrofitted bund.

Delivery and cover

Free delivery applies UK-wide including Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey, and the price shown is the total payable — no VAT is added at checkout. A 40ft store is delivered by articulated lorry and needs a genuinely straight run at the pitch; unlike a 10ft or 20ft unit there is no realistic option to shuffle it into place afterwards, so confirm the approach before ordering. Level ground is a functional requirement on any bunded unit. Where a crane offload is needed, it is agreed in writing before delivery. Fabrication carries 12 months on workmanship, the one-trip shell 12 months against structural defects and water ingress, and separately you have 14 days to cancel under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 and 30 days to reject faulty goods under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Smaller options

Should 40ft be more capacity than the job warrants, half that length in identical construction is the 20ft raised bunded store, and small compounds are covered by the 10ft raised bunded store. Drums that must stand above collected liquid point instead to the 20ft open mesh floor bunded store. Related units sit in the storage container range; request a quote for current lead times.
