Description

Twice the deck of its 20ft counterpart: the 40ft flat rack gives 11.65 m of open platform, clear from end to end, with nothing at the sides to get in the way of a load. Structural steel, trusses, pipe runs, plant, vehicles — anything that will not come apart to pass through a container door, or that is too long to hang safely off a shorter deck — is what this length exists for. Overhang is the specific problem it solves: a load projecting past the end of a 20ft rack concentrates stress at the rails and turns lashing into a puzzle, while the same item sits inside the footprint here.

Restraint over a long deck

Securing a load on 11.65 m of open platform is a different exercise from securing one on a short rack. Lashing rings run the length of the side rails and through the deck itself, so a long item can be restrained at several points rather than pinched at the ends — which is what stops a pipe run or a steel section walking under braking. Where a load is tall as well as long, the corner posts give the high anchor you need to stop it rolling. Life after freight

ISO corner castings on the frame give a used 40ft rack a long career after it stops going to sea. Working platforms, equipment skids, crane mats and bridge decks are the conversions we see most often, and the appeal is that certified lifting points are already engineered in — building an equivalent platform from bare steel normally costs more and takes longer. Expect the cosmetics of an ex-service frame: worn paint, surface rust along the rails, marked decking.

Delivery, siting and cover

Delivery is free UK-wide, including Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey, and no VAT is added at checkout. At 4,950 kg and nearly 12 m long this is a heavy, unwieldy item to place: the delivery vehicle needs a straight approach and the ground has to be firm along the full run of both rails, because an open frame has nothing to bridge a soft spot. If the rack has to be craned into a stack or lifted over an obstruction, that offload is agreed in writing before delivery. It carries a 3-month structural warranty from delivery covering the deck, main rails, cross members, end frames and corner castings, set out in our Warranty Policy; an open frame has no walls, roof or door seals, so weathertightness does not apply to it and is not warranted. Your statutory rights are unaffected — 14 days to change your mind under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, and a separate 30-day right to reject the goods if they are faulty.
