Description

A one-trip 20ft × 8ft shell converted for use as a garden or home workspace. The glazing is what sets this container home office apart from the usual conversion: instead of a door and a window being cut into the side, one whole long side comes out and is replaced with full-height double glazed sliding patio doors. Daylight then travels the full depth of the floor rather than gathering around a single opening, and the result reads as a room instead of a shed with a window in it.

Dimensions

  • External: 6.058 × 2.438 × 2.591 m (19 ft 10 in × 8 ft 0 in × 8 ft 6 in)
  • Internal floor area: approximately 13.8 m² (149 sq ft) before lining
  • Glazing: full long side, double glazed sliding patio doors

Built out properly, not just lined

This shell is finished to room standards rather than container standards. Studwork goes in first and carries Dritherm Earthwool at 50 mm in the walls, with Dritherm loft insulation at 100 mm overhead; 12.5 mm plasterboard covers it all, left bare so you can skim it or decorate it as you prefer. Sockets and switches are flush-fitted for a reason — surface trunking running across a plastered wall would waste the entire exercise.

Conversion specification

  • Built on a new one-trip 20ft × 8ft container
  • One entire long side removed, double glazed sliding patio doors in its place
  • Integral venetian blinds sealed inside the glazing unit
  • Fitted studwork carrying 50 mm (2 in) Dritherm Earthwool to the walls
  • Dritherm loft insulation, 100 mm (4 in), across the ceiling
  • 12.5 mm plasterboard right through, left ready to skim or finish
  • Three LED strip lights
  • Four double 13 A sockets
  • Two 32 A isolators at the rear for air conditioning

The blinds are inside the glass, and that matters

The venetian blinds sit within the sealed double glazed unit rather than hanging in front of it. There are no cords to tangle, no fabric to clean, and nothing collecting dust on a windowsill behind a desk. In a room where one entire wall is glass, that is the difference between a clean finish and a permanently fussy one — and it removes the only real maintenance item on the glazed side.

Delivery, siting and cover

Delivery is free anywhere in the UK, including Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey, and the price shown is the total payable with no VAT added at checkout. Two things to settle before ordering. First, access: a 20ft unit has to reach the back garden, which usually means a crane over the house or a clear side route — check this early, because it is the most common reason a garden office order stalls. Second, consent: check whether your local authority requires permission for a garden building at your property. The standing must be firm and level at all four corners so the sliding doors run true. Crane or HIAB offload is agreed in writing before delivery. Built on a one-trip shell with our conversion work, it carries 12 months of cover on structural defects, water ingress and workmanship, alongside your separate statutory rights: 14 days to change your mind under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, and 30 days to reject the goods if faulty under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Compare the other workspace builds

Starting from a refurbished shell instead of a one-trip container? Put this alongside the 20ft office in a refurbished shipping container. If you would sooner fit the interior out yourself, the 20ft new open-plan office leaves that to you. For a small garden, the 10ft ModiBox office does the same thing over half the length. Workspace builds are grouped under specialised containers, and the siting questions worth settling first are covered in our buyer’s guide.
