Here is a used container that does not look used. A Grade A 20ft shipping container is the best of the second-hand stock we handle: normally fewer than eight years at sea and properly maintained throughout, which shows in the paintwork, the floor and the door gear. You get the presentation of a far newer box without paying one-trip money.

When appearance is part of the specification

Most used containers go into yards where nobody sees them. Some do not — a customer car park, a farm gateway on a public lane, a school site, a compound that fronts a road, or any conversion where the shell will be visible in the finished job. For those, condition stops being purely functional and becomes part of what you are buying.

Grade A is the highest band we apply to a used 20ft container, and it exists for exactly that situation. Under eight years of service and proper maintenance means the paint is largely original rather than patched through several liveries, the corrugations are straight, and the floor is usually sound enough to fit out directly without lifting boards. If you are converting, that saves you the first and most tedious stage of the work, which is grinding back rust and making good.

Delivery, siting and cover

Delivery is free UK-wide, taking in Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey, and the price shown is the total payable with no VAT added at checkout. At 2,100 kg this is one of the lighter 20ft units, delivered by tilt-bed onto firm, level ground with a clear straight approach of roughly three times the container length. If presentation matters, think about which way the doors face and which side will be seen before the lorry arrives, because turning a container once it is down means bringing plant back. HIAB or crane offload is agreed in writing before delivery.

As used stock the unit is covered for three months from delivery: wind and watertight, dry inside under normal weather conditions, with doors that operate and seal. Cosmetic condition is excluded even on a Grade A container — the grade sets a higher starting point, not a different warranty. Your statutory rights are separate and additional: 14 days to change your mind under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, and a 30-day right to reject the goods if they are faulty.

Comparing the grades

Where budget outweighs appearance, a plain 20ft wind and watertight used container costs less. Where the extra internal height is the priority, we apply the same grading to our used 20ft high cube container.
