Description

A used 53ft high cube container built in galvanised aluminium rather than steel. Two things follow from that choice: it is lighter than an equivalent steel shell of the same size, and it resists rust and corrosion to a degree a painted steel container simply cannot. Combined with the extra-wide 102 in interior — enough for standard pallets to sit side by side rather than single file — it is bought for warehousing overflow, commercial inventory, vehicle storage and construction equipment, particularly where the unit will live outdoors year-round.

Know what you are buying

Aluminium is the right material for corrosion resistance and the wrong one for abuse. It dents where steel would deflect, and it is less forgiving of forklift contact on the inner walls — so if the unit will be worked hard with machinery every day, a steel shell is the more durable buy. Like all 53ft units this is a domestic road and rail box rather than an ISO sea container, so it will not twist-lock or stack with standard 8ft containers and is not the unit to choose for onward sea freight.

Getting the pad right

Fifty-three feet is a long run of ground. Firm, level bearing under every corner is what holds the frame true and keeps the doors closing squarely, and the delivery vehicle wants a straight approach with room to reverse into. The lighter aluminium construction helps here — it is easier on soft standing than a steel unit of the same length — but it does not remove the need for a level pad, and an aluminium frame that is allowed to settle out of true is harder to bring back than a steel one.

Crane or HIAB offload, where the site needs it, is agreed in writing before delivery. Sold wind and water tight, this unit is covered for 3 months from delivery — dry inside, doors operating.
