Description

A 40ft shipping container bought specifically for dry storage, with a documented history to back it up: it was previously used to store paper for more than five years with no water damage or deterioration. For archive and document storage, where damp rather than theft is the real risk, that track record is worth more than any specification sheet.

Dimensions

  • External: 12.19 × 2.44 × 2.59 m (40 ft 0 in × 8 ft 0 in × 8 ft 6 in)
  • Internal: 12.00 × 2.35 × 2.39 m (39 ft 4 in × 7 ft 9 in × 7 ft 10 in)
  • Door opening: 2.34 m wide × 2.28 m high (7 ft 8 in × 7 ft 6 in)
  • Tare weight: approximately 3,700 kg

Key features

  • A full 40 feet of storage space for equipment, inventory, documents and tools
  • Supplied watertight, keeping contents dry in all weathers
  • Solid steel construction with durable marine-grade flooring
  • Secure double doors for loading and unloading
  • Suitable for residential, commercial or industrial use
  • Proven in service: stored sensitive paper materials for over five years

Why a proven dry box is worth seeking out

Every used container is sold as watertight, and the seal is the first thing we check. But a container that has demonstrably kept paper dry through five British winters has proved the thing that a visual inspection can only predict. Paper is an unforgiving test: it shows damp long before most stored goods do, and it records the history permanently in cockling and staining.

What that history tells you is that the roof, the door gaskets and the corner welds have all held under real conditions, and that condensation was managed successfully rather than merely absent. If you are storing archives, records, packaging, textiles or anything else that damp would ruin, that is a materially better starting point than an equivalent box with an unknown history.

Where it does its best work

  • Archives and documents, where damp is the risk that matters
  • Farm and plant equipment that has to stay dry between jobs
  • Bulk inventory, packaging and seasonal stock that has outgrown a warehouse
  • Household storage over a long build or a relocation

Delivery, siting and cover

Delivery is free across the UK, including Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey, and the price shown is the total payable with no VAT added at checkout. Delivery runs on a tilt-bed or roll-off lorry, so plan for firm, level ground and a clear straight approach of roughly 25 m. For document storage the siting decision matters more than usual: keep the container off ground that holds water, leave the vents clear, and allow air to circulate around the outside rather than boxing it in tight against a wall. HIAB or crane offload is agreed in writing before delivery.

Supplied wind and watertight, it is covered for three months from delivery: dry inside under normal weather conditions, with doors that open, close and lock. Cosmetic condition is excluded. Separately from that warranty, you have 14 days to change your mind under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, and a distinct 30-day right to reject the goods if they are faulty.

Comparable 40ft options

The container condition guide spells out how a watertight used box differs from cargo-worthy or one-trip stock. One comparable option is the 40ft preloved wind and watertight container; where an extra foot of headroom helps, there is also the 40ft used high cube storage container. Everything else in the line-up is filed under shipping containers. Send us your postcode and we will confirm a delivered price.
